Commutator Electric

A commutator is a rotary electrical switch in certain types of electric motors or electrical generators that periodically reverses the current direction between the rotor and the external circuit. In a motor, it applies power to the best location on the rotor, and in a generator, picks off power similarly. As a switch, it has exceptionally long life, considering the number of circuit makes and breaks that occur in normal operation.

A commutator is a common feature of direct current rotating machines. By reversing the current direction in the moving coil of a motor's armature, a steady rotating force (torque) is produced. Similarly, in a generator, reversing of the coil's connection to the external circuit provides unidirectional—direct—current to the external circuit. The first commutator-type direct current machine was built by Hippolyte Pixii in 1832, based on a suggestion by André-Marie Ampère.

VEGA- NEW PRODUCTS UP TO 450 DEG C

VEGASWING 66 is a world first. It is VEGA’s latest addition to its portfolio of vibrating limit switches
for liquids. The instrument is designed for reliable, self monitoring, fail safe switching in applications
with process temperatures up to +450 °C and process pressures up to 160 bar.

Until now, the principle of the vibrating level switch has been limited to process conditions up to a
maximum of +280 °C and 100 bar. By using a new drive for the tuning fork of VEGASWING 66, VEGA has made deployment of the instrument possible far beyond these limits. VEGASWING 66 delivers a convincing performance with impressive values: process temperatures from -196° C to +450° C and pressures from 0 to 160 bar.

Since it is virtually unaffected by product properties such as product density, the vibrating level switch
can be used with hardly any restrictions. The sensor switches reliably and reproducibly when a certain
filling level is reached. Adjustment with medium is not required for setup. The integrated analysis and
monitoring capabilities allow certification according to SIL2 and steam boiler regulations.
Versatile and dependable.

Users benefit from the technical features in combination with the total self-monitoring of the sensor
and can be sure of highest system reliability – even in critical high-temperature and high-pressure
applications. In addition, the universal level sensor VEGASWING 66 saves a lot of time and costs
through its simple setup and commissioning.

The application range of VEGASWING 66 extends from distillation columns in the oil and gas
industry, to high and low water limits in steam boilers, to cryogenic applications in gas tanks for LNG
and nitrogen.

Standard approvals according to ATEX and FM for use in explosive gases and dust, as well as
versions as compact sensor or with tube extensions up to 6 m, round out the wide application
spectrum of this unique, new product.
